Finance Manager
The National Ramah Commission (NRC) is the convening, catalyzing, and coordinating body of the Ramah Camping Movement, supporting our camps and Israel programs; providing opportunities for leadership development, offering year-round alumni engagement; and strengthening connections with Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. The National Ramah Commission operates under the educational and religious supervision of The Jewish Theological Seminary.
The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the National Ramah Commission, which operates under a single EIN with multiple entities, programs, and internal divisions. This role ensures accurate accounting, strong internal controls, timely reporting, and compliance with nonprofit and regulatory requirements.
This is a full-time hands-on role overseeing cash receipts, deposits, transaction processing, and financial recordkeeping. The position requires a high level of accuracy, reliability, and attention to detail. The Finance Manager escalates complex issues to the Director of Finance as needed.
Both hybrid and fully remote work arrangements are available. The National Ramah office is located in New York City.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
Manage daily accounting activities across multiple entities/programs under one EIN
Maintain general ledger accuracy, including proper allocation of shared costs and inter-entity activity
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and cash management
Ensure consistent coding and financial treatment across all entities and funding sources
Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Financial Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Review budget-to-actual reports and explain variances by program or entity
Support preparation of financial dashboards and management summaries
Budgeting & Forecasting
Support the annual budgeting process across multiple programs/entities
Collect budget input from department and program leaders to develop realistic budgets
Track spending against budgets and flag risks or trends early
Assist with reforecasts as funding, staffing, or program needs change
Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls
Support the annual audit and serve as a liaison with external auditors
Maintain documentation to support financial statements, grants, and audits
Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and internal policies
Assist with preparation of Form 990 and other regulatory or funder reports
Strengthen and maintain effective internal controls
Grants & Restricted Funds
Track restricted and unrestricted funds across programs and entities
Ensure proper reporting and compliance with grant and donor requirements
Prepare financial reports for funders in coordination with program staff
Systems, Processes & Collaboration
Maintain and suggest improvements to accounting systems and financial processes
Ensure consistency in procedures across all entities and departments
Serve as a financial resource to non-finance staff, answering questions and providing guidance
Support special financial analyses and projects as needed
Qualifications—Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
3–5 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
Experience managing finances across multiple programs, funds, or entities
Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
Experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting
Qualifications—Preferred
Nonprofit fund accounting experience
Experience with cost allocations and shared services across entities
Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com and other payment platforms
Familiarity with Form 990 preparation and audit support preparation
CPA or advanced accounting coursework
Skills & Competencies
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Analytical and comfortable working with complex financial structures
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting software
Clear communicator who can translate financial information for non-finance audiences
Ability to manage deadlines independently and prioritize competing demands
