Aaron Mendelsohn
NRC Secretary and JTS General Counsel

Aaron has more than 25 years of experience in litigation, regulatory enforcement, compliance, and public policy across federal, municipal, and nonprofit organizations. In his role at JTS, Aaron provides strategic legal counsel to leadership and the Board of Trustees and oversees legal, compliance, and governance matters.

Before joining JTS, Aaron served as Deputy General Counsel for Policy & Compliance at the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), where he led the agency’s audit, compliance, and privacy teams and advised senior leadership on complex legal and governance matters. He also teaches as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law.  Earlier in his career, Aaron served as a federal prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice, in BigLaw and Big4 consulting firms, and on multiple U.S. Presidential campaigns.

Aaron has a deep commitment to Jewish learning and community. He is the proud parent of two Ramah Nyack campers, was a counselor at Ramah New England (where his wife was a camper), and has served for more than three decades as the High Holidays cantor at Middlebury College. He holds a J.D. from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and a B.A. from Middlebury College. An avid runner, Aaron won the Hamptons Marathon in 2013 and has served as an official pacer for the New York City Marathon five times.
