Camp Ramah in the Poconos is located in the scenic mountain region of Wayne County in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The natural beauty of the Poconos provides
an ideal setting for a summer camping experience. The camp is approximately
three hours driving time from both New York City and Philadelphia.
Our modern pool and beautiful lake provide
the perfect setting for Red Cross certification, and instruction in boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. Sport choices include basketball, baseball, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics and tennis. Special sports programs include inter-camp games, sports marathon, Ramah Tennis Open and Maccabiah. Campers are also exposed to cultural arts through studio arts, photography, woodworking, radio, dance and drama. Plays and other camp-wide cultural programs are performed throughout the summer.
Basic outdoor living skills are taught in camp through age appropriate experiences culminating in backpacking and overnight hikes and canoe trips. Ecology, the Jewish connection to nature, and camping skills are integrated with group building and personal achievement challenges. Camp Ramah in the Poconos offers a five-day Kesher Program for Jewish families with deaf or hard of hearing members. It is the first of its kind offered under the
auspices of the Ramah camping movement. It was designed to enable Jewish deaf children and adults to begin, or further develop, a Jewish identity within the format of a family camp program.
In addition to the Kesher family camp, we offer a ten-day camper program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Children from all over the United States live together in bunks with counselors who themselves are also deaf. Kesher campers experience the full Camp Ramah program including Jewish living, education,
tefillot, and recreational programming while being integrated into the larger camp program for
electives and evening activities.
